Concrete Pipes are the strongest pipes and have been in fashion for ages for construction purposes. It is one of the most durable and strongest materials available and so there are plenty of applications of concrete and this applies in making pipes too. Cylindrical Concrete pipes are used as long lasting building blocks of any infrastructure, highly economical having a shelf life of approximately 75 years.
Where are Concrete Pipes?
Concrete Pipes are very common in sewage systems and underground water systems. Sewers carry the wastage from industrial or residential areas. It carries tons of suspended solid wastes along with the water. Concrete Pipes are durable, resistant to any kind of rust and sustainable towards any biological decay, these properties make it suitable to be a part of sewage systems. Storm Water Drains are pipes with large diameters and are meant for the flow of excess water from one area to another in order to alleviate the cause of flooding. During the situation of any storm, water can be moved through a high velocity.
Culverts are another major application of Concrete pipes. These are fitted in areas having large man-made areas such as flyovers, underneath roads, underground tunnels, etc. Being robust in structure and having high strength, they are known to bear heavy loads. Concrete making machines are therefore very useful in ensuring that the pipes being manufactured are high in tensile strength.
How are Concrete Pipes Manufactured?
Concrete Pipes are primitively composed of basic components that cement, aggregate that is sand and gravel, and water. All these ingredients are mixed differently in five forms and hence the manufacturing process gets categorized in five methods.
Centrifugal Method employs machines for making Concrete Pipes in a hollow structure. Concrete pipe making Machines cast them with the rotating mold giving a hollow shape thus making it compact and strong. Iron reinforcements can also be added sometimes. Concrete pipe making equipment inserts a steel pipe which compresses the mixture to make hollow shapes in the finally dried concrete pipes.
Besides the first method, in other methods like the Dry cast method, packer head method, the tamp entail method, pipe making machine uses a dry concrete mix and manufactures the desired concrete pipes through the standard technique of press rolling.
Another method, Wet casting method, machines for making concrete pipes use a high slump of wet cast concrete mix and it is highly recommended for making huge diameter pipes. Wet masses are introduced in the concrete pipe making machines to mold the input in a long pipe-like structure having an inner wall. The press rollers smoothen the inner layer and also applies an impregnating liquid medium. The build-up pressure is sufficient to enhance the permeability of the liquid medium to a depth of at least 10 mm.
The Bottom Line
Modern-day concrete pipes have found their way since the 19th century and have been in use since then. They have been proved to be useful in holding any hazardous containment, sewage or drainage systems. Water supplies, Irrigation, etc. are the most remarkable systems for any cities across which have evolved in a much better way only after increased usage of Concrete PIpes.
